Dry skin type

Dry skin type is characterized by the skin having low sebum production and producing too little oil to retain the moisture it needs.

When the skin's surface lacks these fats, it is unable to form a strong protective layer – and moisture evaporates more easily from the skin surface.

This characterizes a dry skin type.

  • Dry and tight, especially after cleansing
  • In some cases, the skin becomes periodically red and sensitive, often in the winter or when using the wrong product.
  • If the skin is very dry, it may be rough or flaky.

How to treat dry skin

Moisturizers and nourishing balms are the most important treatment for dry skin. Creams should contain hydrating ingredients like glycerin and hyaluronic acid. Balms create a protective barrier that prevents moisture from evaporating from the skin. They should contain ingredients like shea butter, ceramides, and other essential fatty acids.

Common causes of dry skin

  • Genetics
  • Weather and climate
  • Age. Sebum production decreases with age and therefore the skin becomes drier.
